Berm & Tree
The finished project. Just outside page fence tunnel by the railroad tracks on the right hand side heading towards BJ's from the boat launch.
Wildflower area from our previous planting. Not quite in bloom yet, but it should be soon. We weeded this area to keep it looking nice.
Forming the berm from about 6 cubic yards of top soil.
Looks like our Elder John Ashcroft of Shelton got himself a little too deeply into his work.
Digging the hole for a white birch at the turn around.
A couple of friends from Calvary EFC in Trumbull who lent a hand. We had five people come from Calvary to help with the project.
Phil Marcuccio of Marcuccio Gardens provided all the plants and mulch at a discount and lent his expertise for layout and planting instruction.
Covering over the tree ball.
Planting the berm.
City of Derby Public Works let us borrow a generator for our power needs.
About half the plants are in!

Red twig dogwoods line the fence. Knockout rose shrubs, Stell D'oro daylillies and coneflowers fill out the rest of the berm.
We used the generator to pump water into buckets for mixing concrete and to use with the plants.
The grassy areas near the walkway were treated with Roundup to prevent grass re-growth.
Spreading the mulch from the wheelbarrow.
Spreading mulch by hand.
Mulch was brought to the site via pick up truck. Thanks to the city for providing access!
Shovels were a plenty. But many hands made the load light.
The final project a beautiful white birch in the turnaround at the confluence of the Naugatuck and Housatonic Rivers.
Getting the mulch under the shrubs.
Getting it in all the nooks and crannies.
A view from the rear.
About half way done with the mulch.
Now that's what you call really getting into it!
Now that's a real tailgate party.
